VSA Arts Iowa
VSA arts is an international organization founded in 1974 by Jean Kennedy Smith as an affiliate of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The affiliate network includes 39 states and the District of Columbia, as well as 70 international affiliates in 67 countries. Affiliate programs serve 4.3 million Americans and 1.3 million people in other parts of the world. VSA arts of Iowa has four program areas which are the following: Education Programs, Professional Development, Cultural Access, and Public Awareness and Outreach. Annually, with your help, VSA arts of Iowa provides arts experience for over 30,000 children and adults with disabilities.

Octagon Center for the Arts
The Octagon Center for the Arts was established in 1966 as a community arts center, originally housed in a 100-year-old octagon-shaped building that gave the center its name. Since then, the Octagon has expanded to become a comprehensive community arts center located in an historic four-story building at the corner of Douglas Avenue and Fifth Street in the heart of the Ames Main Street Cultural District.
The Octagon Art Shop offers original, hand-crafted works of art by more than 175 local and regional artists. Two galleries feature a variety of exhibits ranging from local to international. Classes and workshops for adults as well as children as young as 18 months let everyone explore their creativity.

Mid Iowa Community Action
Living With HIV
MICA’s Living With HIV program helps individuals with HIV in Boone, Franklin, Greene, Hardin, Hamilton, Marshall, and Story counties coordinate essential health services. Services include referrals to infectious disease specialists, locating medical and prescription coverage, and referrals to substance abuse and mental health programs. The Living With HIV program, in some circumstances, also helps individuals with living expenses and gasoline vouchers. MICA started the program in 2000.
The Living With HIV program is based in Mid-Iowa Community Action’s Story County office in the lower level of the Story County Human Services Building, 126. S. Kellogg, Ames. For more information, call (515) 956-3312.
